The Last Living Detective, Bruce Levine

August 21, 2018

In a world where vampires, shifters, elves and the likes are common, Elmer is just a man with no inclination to change who he is. Especially because when you chose to change, you aren't sure what you're going to come back as.

Elmer's a private detective who caters to the supernatural and he's been hired by an elf to find a missing ring, which is no ordinary ring. His vampire secretary, Val, lends support on his cases when needed, and she's as much a vegetarian as a vampire can get. There was a second story added which threw me off at first as I wasn't expecting it. Elmer is faced with a different case this time, as he must figure out why some high profile people are dying. There has to be a connection, and Elmer and Val need to get to the bottom of it.

There are many witty and low key pop culture references that are highly amusing. So as I was reading, there were moments where I laughed out loud because of these, most memorably when we meet Cthulhu. The Last Living Detective as well-written, it was engaging and so unexpectedly fun, a truly great read.
